Plac.Art.X

Plac.Art.X is a placard taking place on the 18th august 2007 at Leerer Beutel in Regensburg/Germany. Placard or if in english – headphone festival is an alternative form of participating in music, both as a listener and as a performer artist. No more feedbacking loudspeaker systems, no more complaining neighbours. Headphone festivals are a social and musical experiment. You can listen and participate in the Plac.Art.X both in Regensburg and also remote from internet thru audio streams on the web. The placard is one of the happenings during the art.xxXtenxions weeks during august from Pomodoro Bolzano media art group and the placard is curated from their artist in residency Björn Erikson (aka Miulew) from Sweden.

Old Recording Notes

Jude The Obscure

The notes below were written in 1989 and still convey the philosophy of M4tr’s approach to recording.

“Jude the Obscure” was released in May 1989 and is the second solo release by T/W on M4TR and is seen as a natural progression from the first tape ‘Hope’, which was released twelve months before. The songs on Jude are more inventive and the recording style more experimental e.g., the use of different speeds, machines, tape types with and without noise reduction, the use of microphones (different types in various different rooms) - at one point the whole house became the studio, the bathroom the live room, the bedroom the dead room, etc. The most important thing about JTO is that these diverse factors combine together to create a whole product in which traditional songs of melody and musical structure combine with experimentation to compliment each other and the bitch is raw in places. The use of instruments on JTO creates a bizarre effect, one minute a crazy AXEMAN guitar will disappear into a didgeridoo droning underneath a flute and eastern drum - and the next a floating female vocal will be echoed by a telephone answer machine. The whole experience was a great adventure.”

These notes were published in GAJOOB (more)

There is a re-released CD version available called ‘The Obscure Jude

Plac.Art.X - sounds

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

We have been trawling through the achives of our studio and have unearthed some interesting source material for ‘This Window’s‘ live set on the 18th of August.

Boxes of tapes (cassettes, reel to reel etc.) were plundered and rediscovered. This was an interesting day! We were emptying one dusty old cupboard when we found this strange creature. ‘The Goat‘ was an international compilation tape we put together with tracks from ‘Self Without Shells‘ (NL), ‘Klimperei‘ (F), ‘El Smout‘ (ESP), ‘Sha 261‘ (F), etc. Containing 14 tracks, running for about 45 minutes, this was released in 1991 and is a good example of the independent cassette scene of that era. The tape may sound a little dated and some of the tracks are rather self indulgent…. We have a few left if you want one - drop us an email.

Plac.Art.X - test streaming

Monday, August 6th, 2007

Successful streaming tests were carried out last night. This was a relief……..

If things go to plan we should have a live audio feed from a beach (near a beach) so there should be ocean sounds and seagulls, in the live room we should have a double bass and violin and finally some collected songs and things. All this stuff will be mixed live.

M4tr are going to record This Window’s set and hopefully a download of the ’stream’ to Plac.Art.X - Staedtische Galerie im Leeren Beutel, Bertoldstr.9, 93047 Regensburg, Bayern, Germany will up on the net before the event is over as a free download.

We will keep you posted.

Three new tracks:

THIS IS (LIVE) SEX was recorded in a room with 3 microphones. It was part of an idea that miking a room was as important as the music produced, so this is a totally live track. Read More

WEDDING DAY The church bells a purely coincidental. No sooner had we finished recording, the local bell ringers came in to practice. We shoved a PZM through the window and mixed it in with the track. Read More

UNTITLED (PreVocal Edit) The bass and guitar were recorded simultaneously in one take (although a few bum notes were scrubbed out). Read More
