The political and ideological polarity of Russia and the USA during the cold war (retrospectively) makes an interesting starting point for a new project. Apparently there are rumors that the early days of the Russian space program were not only motivated by military and scientific advancement but a search for a new world to populate – to put citizens of the Russian Republic on once they had realized their ambitions of ensuring immortality. There was no God in Russia (officially) and the USA put their trust in God, both were chasing the same dreams, immortality and history. Gagarin achieved both by  becoming a God (hero) in his own country and the rest of the world – all gods die young.

As an 11 year old I watched the first moon landing in 1969. I was mad about everything to do with space travel, I would read anything that was about rockets, cosmonauts and astronauts. Later in my life I shook the hand of a man who shook the hand of my all time hero Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin, that was for me like touching history, if only secondhand (excuse the pun).

It is going to  be ‘fun’to present a body of new prints, supported by a few images, drawings I did from  nearly 40 years ago. Some of the earlier drawings etc. are very similar to what is still being produced today. It might be interesting to see the chronological journey – maybe the viewer will say “I can do better than that”. I was tempted do a series of figures – I wanted to make them more than just ‘people studies’. I’m bored with ‘quick click’ ‘n ‘quick fix’ –  (modus operandi – these new prints will be the real statement and the paintings a re-hash of old tricks – shhh!).

This image was exhibited in the 150 Building at West Buckland School, North Devon. Each print is unique and is hand printed (unframed) and is delivered free of charge.

Due to administrative costs all my paintings and prints will be going up in the next few weeks This is unfortunate but it is a sign of the times.

I would like to thank all my clients (collectors) for their support during 2011 and I am pleased that my work is now in Asia and that I am still still getting support from the USA.

One of the highlights of 2011 was visiting The Eden Project in Cornwall (UK). It is important that places like this exists to show us how fragile our environment is.

The Eden Project is a visitor attraction in Cornwall in the United Kingdom, including the world’s largest greenhouse. Inside the artificial biomes are plants that are collected from all around the world. The project is located in a reclaimed Kaolinite pit, located 2 kilometres (1.25 mi) from the town of St Blazey and 5 kilometres (3 mi) from the larger town of St Austell, Cornwall.

The complex is dominated by two huge enclosures consisting of adjoining domes that house thousands of plant species, and each enclosure emulates a natural biome. The domes consist of hundreds of hexagonal and pentagonal, inflated, plastic cells supported by steel frames. The first dome emulates a tropical environment, and the second a Mediterranean environment.
