Nancy Spungen – Screen Print – #printmaking

Nancy Spungen - Screenprint

The Screen print above was selected for an exhibition at the ASWARA Gallery, National Arts & Heritage Academy (ASWARA), Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA during February 1 – 29 2012 and is now part of their private collection.

Prints dispatched will be similar to the one illustrated – each print is original so variations of size (approximately A3) and colouring will occur. Each print will be signed by the artist Peter Bright (aka This Window).

Screen print over ink wash. Cost (postage free) £15.00

Old images and ideas revisited and recycled – re-executed in print and paint. A body of work based around “Beauty and the Beast” a classic tale of love, rejection and prejudice, where the beauty is the beast and the beast is the beauty.  An  allegory, a symbolic representation or a metaphor for my feelings towards ART.

ARTIST + S T A T E M E N T … My heroes have grown old with me or they have died – maybe their death has been a way to freeze time, stop the aging process – not only for them but for me also?.‘Peter’s exhibition was inspired by iconic images he used when he was at art school in the 70s on the theme of Beauty and the Beast – inc Sid and Nancy and Guy the Gorilla! – and I think the results are really bold and impactful.’I have always been a hoarder, newspaper clippings, postcards etc. It is only now that I have decided to recycle them.

Guy the Gorilla (May 30, 1946 – 1978) was a Western Lowland Gorilla (Gorilla gorilla gorilla) which was London Zoo‘s famous resident, something of a celebrity in the 1960s–70s and was often profiled on kids TV shows and natural history productions. Guy the Gorilla was one of London Zoo’s best-loved animals. He arrived at the zoo on 5 November 1947, Guy Fawkes Night, hence his name. He was a tiny baby, weighing just 23 lb (10 kg) and holding a small tin hot-water bottle.

How do you actually write a good ‘ Art’ blog post?

The search for new content is a crucial day to day exercise to show your returning visitors that pages are being updated. This task becomes almost impossible when you have nearly said everything there is to say. Try to re-package your blogs content or your websites information and widen your audience – not everyone reacts to the same information in the same way, some people like to read blogs and some like to read more structured information and content.

We can install, manage and maintain a shopping cart for you. We can also do the same for your blog using one of our favorite tools, WordPress. This free blogging tool is as an easy and extremely effective way of enhancing your web presence and business. To maintain a successful blog it is important to know your subject and to constantly expand your own personal knowledge.  A blog is another marketing strategy used for increasing a site’s relevance, by second guessing what people search for when using a search engine. It is important to write your posts using ‘good’ keywords.

Nancy Spungen left home at age 17 and moved to New York City. She worked as a stripper around Times Square (and allegedly at a brothel as well). She followed bands such as Aerosmith, The New York Dolls and The Ramones. In 1977, she moved to London and met The Sex Pistols. When lead singer Johnny Rotten did not show interest in her, she pursued bassist Sid Vicious and they soon moved in together.
